Colored Diamonds

Diamonds That Do Not Come in White

A fancy colored diamond is a diamond that nature tinted. Only a tiny fraction of diamonds mined carry enough colour to be graded fancy, which is why a strong yellow or a true pink costs a multiple of a colourless stone of the same weight.

We carry the colours that people actually come in asking for: canary and fancy yellow, cognac and chocolate browns, warm champagne, and, when we can source them, blue, pink and green. Every colored diamond we sell is GIA-certified, so the colour grade on the report is independent of us.

Colour changes how a diamond should be set. Yellow reads warmer against yellow gold and cooler against white, chocolate and cognac hold their depth in a halo of white diamonds, and a strong pink or blue usually wants a simple setting that does not compete. Our jewelers set all of them in 14-carat and 18-carat gold.

The Colours

Colours We Set Most

Each colour behaves differently in a setting. This is how we use them.

Fancy Yellow and Canary

The most sought-after fancy colour. A canary yellow diamond in yellow gold reads warm and bright; set in white metal the colour looks stronger still.

Chocolate and Cognac

Deep warm browns, far more affordable than yellow or pink for the same carat weight. They look their best surrounded by small white diamonds.

Champagne

The palest of the warm diamonds, a soft golden hue that suits people who want colour without a statement.

Blue Diamonds

Among the rarest colours in nature. Blue diamonds are sourced to order and always come with a GIA report on the colour origin.

Pink Diamonds

Rarer again, and priced accordingly. A pink diamond is usually set as a solitaire so nothing distracts from the colour.

Black and Salt-and-Pepper

Opaque black and heavily included grey stones, chosen for character rather than clarity. Popular for men's rings and alternative engagement rings.

Questions

Good to Know

What is a fancy colored diamond?
A fancy colored diamond is a natural diamond with enough body colour to be graded on GIA's fancy colour scale rather than the colourless D-to-Z scale. Only a small fraction of mined diamonds qualify, which is what makes them expensive relative to a colourless stone of the same carat weight.
What is the difference between chocolate, cognac and champagne diamonds?
They are all warm brown diamonds separated by depth of colour. Champagne is the palest, a soft golden brown. Cognac is deeper and more orange. Chocolate is the darkest and richest. All three are far more affordable than yellow, pink or blue at the same carat weight, which is why they are popular for larger centre stones.
Are colored diamonds a good choice for an engagement ring?
Yes, and they are getting more popular every year. A colored diamond is as hard as any other diamond, at 10 on the Mohs scale, so it stands up to daily wear better than any coloured gemstone. The only real consideration is setting the colour so it reads the way you want it to, which is a conversation to have in the showroom.
Do your colored diamonds come with certification?
Yes. Every colored diamond we sell is GIA-certified, and the report states the colour grade and whether the colour is natural. We hand you the report with the stone.
Are colored diamonds cheaper in the Cayman Islands?
There is no duty and no sales tax on jewellery in the Cayman Islands, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay. On a fancy colored diamond, where the stone is the bulk of the cost, that saving is meaningful compared with buying the same certified stone at home.
