The Most Wanted Fancy Colour

Canary Yellow, Certified

Yellow is the most sought-after of the fancy colours and the one people most often come in asking for by name. The grades run from faint through fancy light, fancy and fancy intense to fancy vivid, and the jump in price between those steps is steep, because the colour has to be present in the stone rather than added to it.

Setting decides how strong the yellow reads. In yellow gold the stone looks warm and integrated; in white metal the contrast makes the same diamond appear noticeably more saturated. A surround of small white diamonds is the traditional way to push the colour further still.

Every yellow diamond we sell is GIA-certified, and the report states the colour grade and confirms the colour is natural. That matters more in fancy colour than anywhere else in diamond buying.

Questions

Good to Know

What is a canary diamond?
Canary is the trade term for a strongly saturated fancy yellow diamond, usually fancy intense or fancy vivid on GIA's scale. It is a description of colour strength rather than a separate grade, and it commands a premium over lighter yellows.
Are yellow diamonds more expensive than white?
A strongly coloured one is, yes. Only a small fraction of diamonds carry enough colour to be graded fancy, so a fancy intense or vivid yellow costs a multiple of a colourless stone of the same weight. Fancy light yellows can be more affordable than an equivalent colourless stone.
What metal is best for a yellow diamond?
Both work, for different reasons. Yellow gold makes the stone read warm and harmonious. White metal creates contrast so the same diamond looks more strongly coloured. We will show you the stone against both before you decide.
