Oval Engagement Rings in Grand Cayman

The shape everyone is asking for, chosen loose and set by hand in our George Town workshop.

The Shape of the Moment

Why Everyone Wants an Oval

The oval has spent the last few years as the most requested shape at our counter, and the reasons hold up. An oval spreads its weight across a longer outline, so carat for carat it looks larger on the finger than a round. The elongated shape draws the eye along the hand and flatters shorter fingers, and it keeps the soft, brilliant sparkle of a round rather than the flashier geometry of step cuts.

Ovals vary more than rounds do, which is exactly why they should be chosen in person. The length-to-width ratio changes the whole personality of the stone, from nearly round at 1.3 to dramatically long at 1.5 and beyond. Most ovals also show a bow-tie, a darker band across the middle, and it ranges from invisible to obvious depending on the cut. Two ovals with identical certificates can look like different stones, so we put them side by side and let your eye decide.

Every oval we sell for an engagement ring is GIA certified, and Cayman's tax-free prices mean no duty and no sales tax on top of the tag. Our bench jewellers in George Town set your stone in the style you choose and size it on-island, often while cruise visitors are still ashore. If ovals lead you toward other elongated shapes, the cases hold those too.

Settings for Ovals

Ways to Set an Oval

The setting decides whether an oval reads classic or contemporary. Try each on the hand.

Oval Solitaires

Four or six claws and a slim band, letting the shape do the talking. The slim band exaggerates the oval's size, which is the point of the shape.

Oval with Hidden Halo

A discreet circle of diamonds under the stone adds side sparkle without touching the clean outline from above. Our most requested oval setting at the moment.

East-West Set Ovals

The stone turned sideways across the finger for a modern, low-profile ring. An easy way to make a classic shape look unlike anyone else's.

Other Elongated Shapes

If you love the long look, compare the oval against pear, marquise and elongated cushion stones in our cases. The differences are obvious once they sit side by side.

Questions

Good to Know

Do ovals really look bigger than rounds?
Yes, at the same carat weight an oval shows more surface area face-up and its long outline covers more of the finger. The effect is real, not a trick of marketing. On the hand, a one carat oval typically reads noticeably larger than a one carat round.
What is the bow-tie everyone mentions?
A bow-tie is a darker band across the middle of an oval where light leaks out, and almost every oval has one to some degree. Certificates do not grade it, so it must be judged by eye. This is the single best reason to choose an oval in person at our George Town counter rather than online.
What length-to-width ratio should I choose?
Most people land between 1.35 and 1.45, long enough to flatter the finger without looking stretched. Below 1.3 the stone reads almost round, above 1.5 it becomes a statement. There is no wrong answer, only what looks right on your hand, so try a few.
Are ovals cheaper than round diamonds?
Usually, yes. Per carat, ovals tend to cost less than rounds of matching grades because rounds carry the highest demand and the most cutting waste. Add Cayman's tax-free prices, with no duty or sales tax, and an oval bought in George Town stretches a budget a long way.
Can you set an oval I choose in a custom ring?
Yes. Choose a loose GIA-certified oval from our stock and our bench jewellers will set it in any of our mountings or build a custom design around it. The work happens on-island, and visitors can often collect the finished ring before flying home.
